What is Marble? Marble is a metamorphic rock. Before marble is born, it is either dolostone or limestone. The metamporphosis involves crytallization of rocks. Patterns in marble are the result of impurities in the original rock, such as clay, silt, sand, or iron oxides. Very pure limestones, after the metamorphic process, will become white marble.
